Jarvis Cocker, Chilly Gonzales - Room 29 FLAC album

Room29 – Jarvis Cocker & Chilly Gonzales. What if a hotel room could sing of the life stories and events it had witnessed? Intrigued by that question, Canadian pianist and composer Chilly Gonzales and Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker conjure up the lives of previous occupants of Hollywood´s Chateau Hotel Marmont.

For their droll, minimal collaboration, Jarvis Cocker and Chilly Gonzales turn their attention towards a famous hotel but end up with a more philosophical examination of these transient spaces. Of course, these seemingly blank slates still hold memories and emotions, and that’s where this collaboration gets interesting

Jarvis Cocker, Chilly Gonzales ‎– Room 29. Genre: Classical. Jarvis Cocker and Chilly Gonzales have created intimate concept album that builds around (imaginary) stories about the guests who have stayed in the Chateau Marmont hotel room 29. It’s not the pop album as the record label might tell you about, so not any Common People have stayed there, but good listen anyway. And beautiful package. Reply Notify me Helpful.

Sometimes, Room 29 can be a bit arch - Gonzalez's piano runs can be a bit florid and Cocker's lyrics can veer toward the purple - but an ode to the decadence of West Hollywood shouldn't be restrained, even when it's austere.

On 17 March 2017 Gonzales released Room 29, a collaboration with Jarvis Cocker. The album is a song-cycle, and tells of happenings in one room at a Hollywood hotel.

A unique collaboration between Jarvis Cocker and Chilly Gonzales, Room 29 asks what the ghosts of Hollywood’s golden age can tell us about how we came to be where we are today. Posted on August 30, 2017May 30, 2018. An album for piano and string quartet (and a few surprises along the way). Inspired by the deepening relationship with Hamburg’s Kaiser Quartett, the album re-imagines Romantic-era chamber music as today’s addictive pop. Posted on August 24, 2017May 30, 2018.

Produced by Jarvis Cocker, Chilly Gonzales & Renaud Letang. Album Room 29. Room 29 Lyrics. Help yourself to pretzels Help yourself to the minibar I couldn't help myself I read a self-help book Now I've gone too far Too far gone Unrecognisable Frightened of the message light On the phone on the bedside table Room 29 I heard them say "Is the only place to stay" Room 29 Is where I'll face Myself alone.

Album · 2017 · 16 Songs. Room 29, a collaboration between Jarvis Cocker (Pulp) and Chilly Gonzales, is a modern study of space and memory. Based on the rich history of Room 29 of Hollywood’s infamous Chateau Marmont, this song cycle combines pensive, dreamy piano, whispered narratives ( Room 29 ), and quietly stark exchanges ( Tearjerker ). Room 29 Chilly Gonzales.

Hearing Jarvis Cocker’s lascivious Sheffield mutter can still produce a contact high, particularly in those who came of age with Pulp. Within a few seconds of the title track of this 16-episode song cycle, we find Cocker settling into LA’s showbizzy Chateau Marmont and contemplating the room’s piano – the glamorous assignations it has witnessed, their bittersweet flipsides. If you half-remember Pulp’s This Is Hardcore, this is familiar territory for Cocker – actors doing drugs on the baby grand, shaking their money-makers, while other gilded lives come crashing down behind closed doors. Jarvis sets up the decadence and then punctures it. Help yourself to pretzels, he offers. Later he’ll note that no one ever got turned on by the Whole Earth catalogue, with an almost imperceptible guffaw. It’s wonderful to have this most self-aware of thigh-rubbers back.

One of the most interesting collaborations last year.

Mine needs a serious cleaning - lots of popping and background noise on both sides. Really disappointed in the pressing quality.
ALAN
Mine is black too :-(. The only difference from the standard release is the booklet....
Opilar
....and mine is scratched! I thought Deutsche Grammophon were meant to be the dog's danglies?
Frlas
This was described as coloured vinyl on the RSD listing but is actually black vinyl (at least my copy is).

I've emailed Deutsche Grammophon to see if they're going to rectify it. It seems a bit much paying the extra £18 for the booklet and deluxe sleeve.

This is a big surprise to find out that vinyl was advertised as coloured and you get a black standard 180g. I thought it's me who was fooled with its colour, but turns out it's a massive issue. Despite the colour, I had a label on one side sticked twice - apparently printing machine decided to give me second as a bonus. Another thing is that it's being advertised also as Decca release. Why on Earth it's Decca? They do only distribution and it hasn't been mentioned anywhere on a record. It feels to me that all RSD participating stores just copied incorrect generic information about label and colour of vinyl. And yes, it's a big money difference - i feel sorry for everyone who think he's been ripped off for £20. Going to contact Deutsche Grammophon to give more clarification and explain why RSD turned into Record Sorry Day.

Just opened my Record Store Day pressing. Mine is Black vinyl too. Everywhere selling this were advertising it as being Coloured Vinyl. I think that £20 extra for booklet & textured sleeve is a bit much!
DABY
Yep mine is on black, and this is the only item I'm disappointed with from my (25 item) Record Store Day purchase. The difference between the standard edition and this is negligible. The 32 page booklet & cover are nice but certainly not anything which justifies the additional cost above the standard edition. It was a steep price increase even when thinking it was going to be an exclusive colour version, but without that its a bit of a cash grab.
Rollers from Abdun
Yes, I was surprised at that also, i've just opened mine and it's also black vinyl. I'm guessing they changed their mind at the last minute on this one and chose not to publicise it.
Global Progression
Is the vinyl version of "A Trick of the Light" really about five minutes shorter than the CD/digital version?
Xava
No it isn't . Track times that are submitted are wrong
Slowly writer
Is it just mine, or has the A side a lot of audible cracklings?
shustrik
Mine plays fine. Very good pressing. Try cleaning it. Hope it helps.
Goldendragon
My vinyl is very quiet with no audible pops or crackles; it's used to be highly unusual for a DG album to have crackling, although I'm not sure where they press their records now that they started up vinyl production again... why not exchange it for a quieter copy?
