David Ryan Adams (born November 5, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter, t, record producer and poet. He is best known for his solo career, during which he has released 16 albums, and as a former member of rock/alternative country band Whiskeytown, with whom he recorded three studio albums. In 2000, Adams left Whiskeytown and released his debut solo album, Heartbreaker, to critical acclaim. The album was nominated for the Shortlist Music Prize.
This is not the album that Ryan Adams wanted to release. The wonder boy of contemporary American singer-songwriting, whose Heartbreaker was hailed as the greatest break-up album since Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks, originally handed in a record called Love is Hell. His label rejected it as too dark - overlooking the fact that this is exactly what Adams’s core following loves most about him. His initial reaction was to go on strike. Then he went back into the studio and within three weeks wrote and recorded Rock’n’Roll
Adams plainly does not suffer from fear of contradiction. But what is the point of calling a record Rock N Roll (which is how the title reads when you hold the cover up to a mirror) if you can’t flash some roots and crank up the homage? The best bullets here are like excerpts from a fantasy mix tape of classic glam and garage rock. Shallow starts with Adams playing a near-twin of the chicken-peck guitar riff in T. Rex’s Bang a Gong (Get It On). 1974 is a glitter-y goose step, the Rolling Stones’ If You Can’t Rock Me in Kiss makeup. And in the quick, raw Note to Self: Don’t Die, Adams pins Nirvana-style verses to a chorus that shakes like his friend Jesse Malin’s old band, mascara punks D Generation. Rock N Roll is exactly what he says it is. Dance with confidence. In This Article: Ryan Adams.

After having got into Ryan Adams via Gold, I next heard his album Rock 'n' Roll and loved it, it's raw, fast paced and full of energy maybe they just prefer the dark and quieter side to his material. Nevertheless I recommend this album 110% to everyone, some great tracks like This Is It, Wish You Were Here, So Alive & Anybody Wanna Take Me Home. by seany t04 Jan, 2007. Being curious about the hype surrounding Ryan Adams I thought I'd give his music a go. Starting with Heartbreaker his first solo effort, Heartbreaker is firmly rooted in country/Folk styling's with a touch of rock thrown in. If you're a Ryan Adams fan and own more than one of his albums you'll have noticed no two are similar, with Rock 'n' Roll you get exactly what it says on the box.
