Album The Joe Meek Story Volume 1: 1960. Michael Cox’s infectious cover of John D. Loudermilk’s Angela Jones is one of Joe Meek’s most memorable productions. With its catchy doot'n do doo chorus and unique structure, Angela Jones was popular enough to lead to a sequel of sorts in Along Came Caroline, a song about leaving Angela for a new love interest. The song is based around an interrupting chorus of abstract vocalizations which end each verse, replacing an obvious rhyme which the listener must guess at via context clues
Although one can hear the genesis of some of Meek's unique methods on this 20-track collection of 1960 releases, the material and performances are fairly insufferable, exhibit A in the lameness of much pre-Beatle British rock. Includes the super-rare (and silly) science fiction EP about intelligent life in outer space that he created with then-futuristic sound effects and tape manipulation under the moniker "The Blue Me.
Album titlle: Story Vo. (CD). A cover version of an American hit, 'Angela Jones' by Michael Cox, reached the Top Ten in June, 1960 but none of Triumph's other releases were successful and Meek discontinued the label in favour of tape-lease deals with the majors. He scored the following year with John Leyton's eerie, futuristic 'Johnny Remember Me' and 'Wild Wind', Mike Berry's poignant & to Buddy Holly' and several smaller hits by the Outlaws (with Richie Blackmore) who backed many of Meek's artists on record
I Hear a New World is a studio concept album written and produced by Joe Meek with the Blue Men, partially released as an EP in 1960. In 1991, the full LP was issued by RPM Records. In 1998, The Wire listed the album as one of "100 Records that Set the World on Fire (When No One Was Listening)". The Blue Men were originally the West Five, a skiffle group from Ealing in London. In addition to I Hear a New World, they also recorded under the name of Rodd, Ken and the Cavaliers for Meek.
