Michael Jay Johnson (August 8, 1944 – July 25, 2017) was an American pop, country, and folk singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is best known for his 1978 hit song "Bluer Than Blue". He charted four hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and nine more on Hot Country Songs, including two Number One country hits in 1986's "Give Me Wings" and "The Moon Is Still Over Her Shoulder". He also co-wrote "Cain's Blood", the debut single of 1990s country group 4 Runner.
Well I'm not a foolish man but I'm half out of my head Sitting here remembering the foolish things I said Here nobody knows me, nobody asks my name But it doesn't really matter 'cause it feels about the same. You can call me blue, you can call me untrue You can call me wrong even if the love is gone You can call me friend till the very end Anytime you got an extra dime, call me sometime. Could've called me fool, you should've called me mad But you didn't have to call if off, you made me feel so bad. Compositor: Larry Brown, David Morgan. Encontrou algum erro na letra?

Johnson was rarely adventurous but he could deliver the goods, even though listeners with a passing interest in the songwriter may find the material a little monotonous. That said, Bluer Than Blue does an excellent job of rounding up highlights from a career that was consistent in style but not in quality. Pop fans will be roped in by his two earliest hits, plus "Almost Like Being in Love," while country fans will use "Give Me Wings" and "The Moon Is Still Over Her Shoulder" as their entrance.
Johnson has never been easy to classify, but Adult Contemporary is probably the best bet, and fans of the local lite FM station are probably familiar with "Bluer Than Blue" and "The Night Won't Last Forever. This will be a generally pleasing compilation to Johnson fans, but the classic "Life's a Bitch (And Then You Die)" is sorely missed. Michael achieved a second top twenty hit with This night won't last forever. Two minor hits (The very first time, You can call me blue) complete Michael's run in the American pop charts. Finding himself without a recording contract, Michael eventually contacted Brent Maher, who had produced his early hits. Brent told Michael that he was now the producer for the Judds and that maybe country music was worth investigating. Brent was also producing an album for Sylvia (best known for Nobody) and decided that one song was ideal as a duet.
