Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsodies Complete. Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsodies. Beethoven: Complete Music for Cello & Piano. Mstislav Rostropovich. Alfred Brendel has written that ‘the Rhapsodies come to life through the improvisatory spirit and fire of the interpreter; they are wax in his hand like few other pieces in existence. Against this, this cycle sadly fails to deliver what I had hoped for. I am sure that every note is there but the necessary flair is not.
Franz Liszt's very famous Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (S. 244/2), for solo piano, composed in 1847. The audio is a recording of MuseScore's rendition of my score using the Salamander Grand Piano soundfont. Liszt dedicated the piece to Count Antoine of Appony. It uses the form of Lassan and Friska like many of the other Hungarian rhapsodies, with in this case a tempo giusto introduction.
