The Comedian Harmonists were an internationally famous, all-male German close harmony ensemble that performed between 1928 and 1934 as one of the most successful musical groups in Europe before World War II. The group consisted of Harry Frommermann (tenor buffo), Asparuh "Ari" Leschnikoff (first tenor), Erich Collin (second tenor), Roman Cycowski (baritone), Robert Biberti (bass), and Erwin Bootz (pianist).

The exile group continued to use the name "Comedian Harmonists" (on His Master's Voice export releases), which it had trademarked in Paris in March 1937, or its English equivalent "Comedy Harmonists. The three "Aryan" members, Biberti, Bootz, and the Bulgarian Leschnikoff, remained in Germany and adopted the Nazi-approved name " Meistersextett. In November 1935, they won official permission to call themselves "Das Meister-Sextett Früher Comedian Harmonists" (The Meister-Sextett, Formerly Comedian Harmonists).

The Comedian Harmonists were a German close-harmony singing group that was among Europe’s most successful prior to World War II. Founded by tenor Harry Frommermann, the group’s other members were tenors Ari Leschnikoff and Erich Collin, baritone Roman Cycowski, bass Robert Biberti, and pianist Erwin Bootz. They sang a wide range of songs in German (plus a few in English), with their harmonies influenced by jazz music. When the Nazis took power, Frommermann, Collin, and Cycowski fled the country, all of them being either Jewish or of Jewish descent
