Redirected from Flamenco Fiesta (Sabicas album)). Sabicas (proper name: Agustín Castellón Campos) (16 March 1912 – 14 April 1990) was a flamenco guitarist of Romani origin. Sabicas was born in Pamplona, Spain, and began playing guitar at the age of five and made his performing debut two years later. His early style was influenced by Ramón Montoya, to whom he was related on his mother's side of the family.
The album Flamenco Puro comes from the first years of Sabicas in New York City. It expresses traditions unique to the Gitano songs and rhythms he learned when young and omits Spanish folk music he also plays memorably on other albums. Sabicas also showed great talent performing with dancers and singers, but there is apparently no recording with him in such an ensemble. The most amazing is surely the Alegrias on track 3-a string of 14 adroitly stitched themes that could each comprise a song in themselves. The third theme begins stentorian but dissolves into temolo.

Before Sabicas flamenco guitar rarely sounded outside of Spain. The situation changed because of the numerous tours of the great musician and increasing popularity of his records. Sabicas created more difficult and interesting guitar music, than it was before. It was a revolution, that impressed everybody. Now we understand that if Sabicas hadn't exist, we wouldn't have listened to the modern flamenco guitar. Critics approved the album and called Jerónimo "the new star of flamenco. Nowadays Maya cooperates with Turkish musician Erdal Akkaya. All musicians noted in this article are the part of great culture.
Sabicas took flamenco technique to hitherto unsealed, unimagined heights, leaving his contemporaries far behind in the matter of speed, timbre and purity of sound, not to mention his own numerous compositions. He had a phenomenal sense of compos and was unequalled in accompanying, especially playing for dancers. With the recording of the album Rey del Flamenco, at the beginning of 1966, Sabicas reached a new stage of maturity in his musical development. His work had freed itself of the influence of Ram6n Montoya, and he was able to express himself without hindrance. His style became better defined. allowing his ideas to flourish within new harmonies.
