Aftermath (Essential Rewindz) ‎(7x12", Comp, Ltd, RP). Renegade Hardware. every track is the business, the whole being greater than the sum of its parts! Sums up the end of the millennium paranoia so well - I remember being down The End for one of RH nights and bumping into Raidan (I hung out with him a little bit as we both lived in Portsmouth at the time) and hearing Messiah dropped for the first time - we just looked at each other and then exploded into dance frenzy. Its one of those, I'll never forget when momentsMy favourite track though is Dylan's Spasm - wicked triplet bass drum kicks - mixes well with some of Metallica's tracks - believe me, I've done it to much bemusement
Wicked album...every track is the business, the whole being greater than the sum of its parts! I purchased this album when it was released only knowing 2 of the tracks, being more into a mellow/liquid mood at the time. I did what I always do with a new album...pressed RECORD on my Pioneer CT-S610, powered up my SL1210s and started mixing the entire album there and then...What a selection of tunes!!! If you are new to post 90's d&b or just new to the scene this album is the perfect starting point. Worried about your first live/public DJ set? File this album in your DJ Box and you can't go wrong...Your dancefloor will fill up, no doubt! Almost the best album release by Renegade Hardware...Though 'Quantum Mechanics'is also right up there...and it was released in 98'...
I can't understand why this album doesn't have a "5" or more rating. Every track is solid as only Renegade Hardware can represent. Sure this album was probably geared toward Tech Step but songs like Research and Moonwalk have a Liquid DnB vibe while songs Rock Steady and Spasm have the Hard Step vibe. The Craft represents the off beat, on beat styles of DnB and Messiah is just what it says . Caution has the groovy hard funk appeal. It's just one of the best albums of all time, don't take my word for it, just listen. As a matter of fact all songs on this album are ANTHEMS...
This compilation is a milestone of Drum and bass. 2000 was a very formative year in the scene, and this album has some of the biggest anthems from that time. There are tracks on it, wich were simply useful on the dancefloors, and simultaneously showing the future. Real treasures from the great era of drum and bass. If someone says this is not a great piece of progressive art in dancefloor music, that person may not understands that era. Let me see. The Craft, Out Of Touch, (although the Source Direct remix was more popular, but the original is good as well) Forcefield, Ice Age, Spasm, Horns 2000, Messiah, Bodycount, Research, Moonwalk. These tunes were played by most of the big names that time and were the ones wich defined that music.
I found this pack slightly underwhelming at the time, though it is not without its merits. Konflict - Messiah is the best track on here, with its blistering bassline and beats. Beyond that Future Cut offers some reasonably good updates of Human Resource's 'Dominator' and Egyptian Empire's 'The Horn Track'. Apart from these 3 the rest is generally abit lackluster.
Not only is this release arguably the best Renegade Hardware pack ever, its on pace for a run at greatest of all time. There is not one track on here I wouldn't buy as a single 12", which as far as I'm concerned is unheard of. Hard to pick my favorites, "The Craft" tricks you with an early drop before it goes into a warped break down at the end of which the real bassline hits (Massive!), "Horns 2000" seems to acheive a level of soulful darkness with its blazing bag pipes, "Ice Age" is a true tech step master piece and "Bodycount" reaches greatness with such simplicity. And thats not even including possibly the most recognizable tune, the mighty "Messiah". **Also it was just repressed making it even easier to find** DON"T SLEEP!!
