Hearing these songs (as well as "The State I Am In," from Tigermilk) in such a raw and unadorned state (complete with vocal wavers and assorted bum notes) isn't a revelation now, though one can imagine people tuned in to their radios that night were thrown for a loop, but it is pretty great.
The album, due out on Sept. 13 on Matador Records, will feature 11 new compositions, as well as re-recorded versions of their classic tracks "Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying" and "I Know Where the Summer Goes.

Belle And Sebastian have blossomed from cult outsiders into Scotland’s best loved band. After wowing the critics with their first albums ‘Tigermilk’ and ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ in 1996, they became household names after beating Steps to a BRIT award in 1999. Having been recently voted the best Scottish band of all time by readers of Edinburgh/Glasgow mag The List, the release of their seventh studio album, ‘The Life Pursuit’, is set to earn them even more fans. Fourteen gorgeous tracks recorded for the BBC between 1996 and 2001. At the time, the group rarely performed live, so all these songs are noticeably different from the studio versions. The regular CD includes an additional four unreleased songs from their classic early Jeepster period. This one doesn't have new material, but it's different enough from the originals and the mix is entertaining.
