Jean-Jacques Kantorow (born 3 October 1945) is a French violin virtuoso and conductor. His son is the pianist Alexandre Kantorow. Kantorow was born in Cannes, France. From the age of 13 he studied at the Paris Conservatoire with René Benedetti, and in 1960 won the first violin prize. In the 1960s he won ten major international prizes, including first prizes in the Carl Flesch Competition (London), the (Genoa) Paganini Competition, and the Geneva International Competition.
the Berliner Philharmoniker, possessed a characteristically transparent tone that made him the ideal interpreter of Mozart: 'A tone of pure silver' is how the Neue Zürcher Zeitung described it in its obituary of Aurèle Nicolet. It is a singular stroke of luck that this recording was made with the Münchner Streichtrio, whose unique style was moulded by violinist Ana Chumachenco, now an internationally renowned pedagogue.
