Singles Box, Vol. 1. 2004.

The Madness is the only studio album by the British ska/pop band The Madness, a short-lived incarnation of Madness. It was originally released in mid-1988, on the label Virgin. The album was produced by The Three Eyes, a pseudonym, whose identities remain a mystery (although they may very well be Madness themselves, or individual members of Madness). With the demise of Madness and the group's own label Zarjazz, The Madness were directly recruited under Virgin Records.

Complete Madness is the first greatest hits album by ska/pop group Madness. It was released in 1982 and included Madness' biggest hits from their first three studio albums and the stand-alone singles. Complete Madness spent 99 weeks on the UK charts peaking at number 1. When issued originally many of the tracks faded early into each other with no banding, sometimes very abruptly

First dozen replica 45s from "The Prince" to "Cardiac Arrest". Self-styled jokers of the 2-Tone crop, Madness’ nutty boys facade often belied the arch pop intellect working underneath. Take 1980’s Embarrassment ?a Top Five hit about the social bigotry surrounding a mixed-race pregnancy, or 1982’s grim satire of executive stress, Cardiac Arrest. These, along with their more rambunctious early hits ( Baggy Trousers, Prince Buster’s One Step Beyond ) rank alongside those.

It would have been a fantastic Boxset singles if only.... the researchers got the correct mixes! Doh! Where can you find the Don't Quote Me On That on the 12" promo and is different from the Work Rest & Play E.P.?

Shiny317 omits the fact that also 'The Prince' and 'Madness' from the first 7" are the Stiff album versions rather than the Two tone single versions. Another mistake (or rather rights issue). Is the Virgin digital download still available? I haven't seen it

You mean Stretch mix? 'Our house' mixes can be found on 'The Rise and fall' 2010 deluxe. It's a confusing issue to me. The mixes on there are normal at 3:23, 12'' extended at 6:00, Mad house Our house 12'' instrumental mix US 12'' at 4:37 and Stretch mix DJ promo mix at 5:34. What's missing? There was a 'The Sun' promo 'Our house' CD single type thing given away with the 'newspaper' which included a Stretch mix i think. Unfortunately i've never been able to find it to check it out

Doing a huge Madness project which led me back here. What's missing off of the Shut up cover? I'd personally be more concerned that the version of Shut up isn't the 7''. It's the heavily shotened 2:56 version which now seems to appear almost everywhere. Guess they first shortened it to fit on a Madness compilation many years ago or made a mistake? The true single version i believe is 3:26 and it would seem ONLY appears on the Ultimate collection (USA) CD from 2000. In other words it appears in this shortened version about 15 times lol

Very true with Prince and Madness. They used the Stiff re-recordings and not the 2 Tone ones even though they put it in the 2 Tone cover. Too many inaccuracies to list. Using 12" mixes but only using 7" covers that weren't the same as the 12" like Cardiac Arrest. Missed the writing off the bottom of Shut Up front cover. I'm not sure the Virgin digital download is available any more, but it was rubbish anyway. Easier to just buy the deluxe edition CDs as it has most of the tracks, though some are still wrong with Salvo issues too. Salvo issued it must bb love 7" version on a deluxe edition and managed to put the 2002 reworked version on, then added Our House 7" Scratch mix which isn't. They just cut the beginning off the 12". The scratch mix had the medley opening but was edited elsewhere to fit a 7". I'm guessing like most companies Salvo neither care if it's right or think fans won't notice.

Note, and major annoyance to Madness fans everywhere in the know.Disc 5 'Don't quote Me On That' has had the standard version from 'Work Rest & Play' EP used on the CD. It's not the version that's on the actual 12" promo copy that appeared on vinyl. The compiler like in many of these compilations doesn't love, know or care enough about what they are doing or about the band.Insult to injury. Salvo took over issuing Madness material and went with the deluxe albums including singles, b sides etc and didn't follow up with a box 2 to complete Virgin's half hearted attempt. Virgin did issue a Box 2.. BUT.. digital download only. What's the point in that? there's no artwork which is the whole reason for a mini LP type replica CD. Final insult was Virgin couldn't even cull MP3s from other places and get them right for box 2 either. 'Guns' had the pitched voices at the beginning totally omitted. Great idea, half completed and messed up. :(
