Live Alive is the first live album compiled from four live performances by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. The performances were recorded on July 15, 1985 at the Montreux Jazz Festival; July 17–18, 1986 at the Austin Opera House; and July 19, 1986 at Dallas Starfest. Much of the album was overdubbed in the studio. The 1985 Montreux performance was much better received than the 1982 visit, when some of the crowd booed Vaughan's hard blues sound

Nothing outstanding here. No skillful or mind-blowing Krautrock...just fairly derivative, simplistic, and repetitive AC/DC-Status Quo-esque riffage from Germany.Truth be told, I'm not much of an AC/DC or Quo fan, and actually prefer this over those bands. Maybe I'm a sucker for English vocals sung with a heavy German accent? Imagine Klaus Meine fronting AC/DC.These guys sort of remind me of another derivative Anglo style German 70's band 'Schloss' if you're familiar with that band, expect much of the same here.'Live And Alive' offers up a fairly decent 7 minute cover of Bad Company's "Can't Get Enough", which closes side 2. Lots of audience participation on this LP too, which can sometimes be a good or bad thing.'Bastard' released two studio albums prior to this live effort, and they were no hell either, save a few OK tunes. Mind you...the prominent AC/DC approach wasn't so strong, which for me was a plus. At times they came across sounding more like a poor-mans 'Scorpions' or mid-late 70's 'Jane'...especially on the debut LP "Back To Nature". On both of these previous studio LP's the band used pseudonyms, which I thought I'd include here because they're so damned funny;Carlos Bastardos - Lead vocals & bassKeith Kossoff - Rhythm guitarTheo Tremolo - Lead guitarToto Petticoato - Drums.'Live And Alive' was their final album. They credited themselves using their real names here...please refer to the main 'Bastard' page for this info.On the back cover of 'Live And Alive', the credits say the music was recorded during Bastard's 1979/80 German tour, utilizing Conny Plank's Mobile Studio. The designer of the "fantastic spectacles" on the front cover was a fellow by the name of Andy Tameling.Fans of AC/DC may (or may not?) enjoy this album.
