Bluesnik, Jackie McLean's seventh session as a leader for Blue Note Records, was one of only two recordings issued by McLean in 1961. With a lineup of trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, bassist Doug Watkins, pianist Kenny Drew, and drummer Pete La Roca, McLean laid down a hard blowing session of six tunes based completely on blues motifs. That said, not all of these tunes are blues numbers strictly speaking

This Jackie McLean album 'Bluesnik' was recorded in January 1961 at Ruby Van Gelder Studio; the album can be viewed as a modern take on the blues, the essentials of the genre being the inspiration for six compositions written by McLean, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and pianist Kenny Drew. In this album Doug Watkins is on bass and Pete La Roca on drums.

Hipnosis is a studio album by saxophonist Jackie McLean, featuring selections recorded for Blue Note Records in the 1960s, but not released until 1978. The album was released in the US as a two-fer (BN-LA 483-H2), which included five tracks from a 1967 session, plus six tracks recorded in 1962 later appeared on the CD reissue of Vertigo (see In Japan, it was released the same year as a standard LP (ST-83022) with a different cover, featuring only the 1967 tracks.
