I'm the Man" is a song written and performed by Joe Jackson, appearing on the album of the same name.
While this song represents his skill at crafting an effective ballad, the frantic "I'm the Man" showcases Jackson at his most frenzied, as a freight train's worth of lyrics pile haphazardly into one another alongside a wonderfully hysteric rhythm

David Ian "Joe" Jackson (born 11 August 1954) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. Having spent years of studying music and playing clubs, Jackson scored a hit with his first release, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?", in 1979. This was followed by a number of new wave singles before he moved to more jazz-inflected pop music and had a Top 10 hit in 1982 with "Steppin' Out". He has also composed classical music. He has recorded 19 studio albums and received 5 Grammy Award nominations.
Joe Jackson released ‘I’m the Man’ on October 5, 1979, remaking the image he'd forged with his debut LP ‘Look Sharp!’ . That was the label applied in the late ’70s to Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello and Graham Parker – songwriters and frontmen who became famous on the heels of the British punk explosion. Although these fellows created music as unfettered as the Sex Pistols and the Damned, they seemed to channel the movement’s gritted-teeth rage with their lyrics more than their music. Call it pub rock, call it punk rock, call it New Wave – this was energetic rock with a point of view.

Joe's next chapter in punk. Joe Jackson is an extremely versatile musician. I'm the Man" followed closely after his successful release of " Look Sharp" and raised the tempo even more. However, if you did not relish in the days of punk, do not despair as Joe has included meaningful melodies like "It's different for Girls" and the grooving "Kinda Kute" which slow the pace in time for the next burst of energy and rhythm of the glorious post-disco days . Wanted to replace old album. Great to hear after 20 years and still sounds good.
