October 26, 1955 - March 20, 1961. The album closes with a further evolution of the sextet, and the last that included Coltrane. Hank Mobley joined the band to replace Adderley and Kelly was the band's full-time pianist. The last cut, "Someday My Prince Will Come," features the most searing and melodic solo Coltrane ever played during his tenure with Davis. Its intensity is white hot and his lyricism is unrivaled. The Complete Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis with John Coltrane is a box set featuring jazz musicians Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

The years from 1955-1961 were the Miles Davis Quintet years & John Coltrane was a huge part of that. As a jazz lover The Miles Davis Quintet was a huge influence on me. I guess if I had to pick one tune, typical of Miles & Coltrane it is "Bye Bye Blackbird. It demonstrates just what a giant of a jazz musician can do with such a simple tune. Blue in Green" was a milestone (forgive the pun) in what is now called "Modal Jazz. This album is a great mix of Miles and Coltrane playing their best together live. If you like Miles and if you like Coltrane even if you have all of these song on separate albums this compilation is a can't miss from the first through the last track.

The Complete Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis and John Coltrane comprise such fabled Davis albums as ‘Round About Midnight, Milestones, Jazz at the Plaza, Volume 1, Someday My Prince Will Come, and the legendary Kind of Blue. Also included are the Davis-with-Coltrane selections that appeared on Miles and Monk at Newport, Jazz Track, Basic Miles, and Circle in the Round. In all, the set boasts 60 tracks, of which 18 are previously unreleased–14 of them complete takes.

John William Coltrane (also known as "Trane"; September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and later was at the forefront of free jazz. Style:MLA Chicago APA.
