IMO Kodaly, Janos Starker, Arnold Eidus - Kodaly: Sonata For Solo Cello (Starker) & Duo For Violin And Cello (Eidus and Starker) is a conundrum, including a complete second composition, that should be split off from this master release. The Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály wrote his Sonata in B minor for solo cello, Op. 8, in 1915. It was first performed in 1918 and published in 1921. It is among the most significant works for solo cello written since Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suites. It contains influences of Debussy and Bartók, as well as the inflections and nuances of Hungarian folk music.

Album in MP3 cart View MP3 Cart. Starker performed this work for the composer Kodály in 1939 when he was just 15 years old, first privately and then in concert in Budapest. The Sonata for unaccompanied cello o. is not that great but its good. I was mostly impressed by the 3rd movement. Starker seemingly uses a lot of technicality with small pizicato inbetween his bowing. The other 1st & 2nd movements are played with no visible fault but they are a little bit dry for m. agree with the other.
