Earth, Wind & Fire.
Earth, Wind & Fire. Raise! (LP, Album, Ter).
Faces is the tenth studio album by the R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire released on October 14, 1980 on ARC/Columbia Records. The album reached number 2 on the Billboard Top LPs chart, number 10 on the Billboard Top Soul albums chart and number 10 on the UK Albums chart. Faces was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. Faces was partly recorded in the Caribbean island of Montserrat and produced by EWF leader Maurice White. Artists such as Fred Wesley and Toto's Steve Lukather guested on the album.
Earth, Wind & Fire is the self-titled debut studio album by the band Earth, Wind & Fire, released in February 1971 by Warner Bros. The album got to No. 24 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart. Off the album the track Love Is Life rose to No. 43 on the Billboard Hot Soul Songs chart.
Raise! wasn't quite the disaster it was made out to be at the time, but it was their least distinguished overall album since the early days on Warner Bros. with the exception of their participation in the awful Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band film soundtrack in 1978. Let's Groove" was just a recycled mid-tempo tune from the mid-'70s, and everything else sounded desultory and uninspired.
Raise marked the 10th anniversary of Earth, Wind & Fire and included the smash hit 'Let's Groove', which returned the group to the top spot in the charts and sold a million copies in addition to winning a Grammy. The runaway success of 'Let's Groove' somewhat overshadowed some of the other outstanding tracks on the album . This album marked the 10th year of Maurice's dream and it was a decade that saw many changes both musically and socially. But one thing remained the same, Earth, Wind and Fire was electrifing us with incredible music that helped to shape our lives in a unique way. They just made you feel a little happier about life and helped get you through many bad days.
Earth, Wind & Fire had persevered through several stages of R&B evolution: from jazz to sweet soul, from sweet soul to funk, from funk to disco. And with 1981’s Raise! they once again made an effortless adaption from disco to the snappy boogie of modern R&B. It’s amazing that after 15 years EW&F could still compete with up-and-coming innovators like Rick James and Prince, but songs like Let’s Groove and Lady Sun don’t just hold their own, they excel.
