The guitarist recalled to Mojo magazine November 2010 the coining of the word 'Twangy:' "We were recording in Phoenix, starting my first album, and one of the guys said, 'Man, that guitar sounds twangy. And (Hazlewood's business partner) Lester Sill fell down laughing. He'd never heard that word and it became a running joke. Duane Eddy (born April 26, 1938) is an American guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" sound, including "Rebel Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and "Because They're Young". He had sold 12 million records by 1963. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2008. Duane Eddy - Because They're Young 01:59. The title song for Eddy's album is also from a Columbia film of the same title. I was in high school when this film played in my father's small-town movie theatre, and I felt that this was more believable than most of the popular troubled teen films of that period. Duane Eddy is long overdue for an extensive reissue programme and a comprehensive compilation spread over two or three CDs. Meanwhile, this useful collection contains 19 fully twangin' original recordings from his Jamie period up to 1961, with Lee Hazlewood in the producer's chair and the Rebels kicking up a storm. Most Duane Eddy CDs contain 'Rebel Rouser', 'Because They're Young', and the hit single verson of 'Peter Gunn'. This one has all of those along with a 7 minute version of 'Peter Gunn' that is by far the coolest, hipist verson ever made.
