Abzu is the sixth studio album by American black metal band Absu. It was released in 2011 on Candlelight Records. It features new members in the form of guitarist Vis Crom and bassist/vocalist Ezezu; although Ezezu did join the band after the recording of Absu, this is his first studio recording with Absu. Absu" in Sumerian mythology refers to a subterranean ocean. The band's in-depth approach, supervised by Proscriptor, draws heavily on occultism and ancient mythologies. Absu's releases go by conceptual cycles: the first two albums are based on Sumerian mythology, while The Third Storm of Cythraul, In the Eyes of Ioldanach, and Tara form a trilogy about old Celtic mythology.

Absu is the fifth studio album by black metal band Absu. It was released on February 16, 2009 (Europe), and February 24, 2009 (USA), by Candlelight Records. It is the debut recording for new members Aethyris MacKay and Zawicizuz, with additional musical contributions from Vastator Terrarum (who left before completing the album) and original guitarist Shaftiel. Ezezu joined the band after the recording process was completed.

If it reaches the audience it has the potential to, Absu will probably be compared to Cynic's Traced in Air, at least in terms of context. Like Cynic, Absu have been on hiatus for a hell of a long time (8 years, to be precise), leaving time for a legacy to fester; make no mistake, even if Cynic have generated a much greater fanbase and a much greater respect with death metal circles, Absu's excellent Tara did much the same in the black metal world on.

Absu means an abyss or a bottomless chasm. This American black thrash band is based in Plano,Texas(well known as the headquarters of Frito Lay snack products). Proscriptor sang the vocals and played drums for this band. Then he left the band. In late 2001, he auditioned for Slayer to play drums, for Dave Lombardo's temporarily vacated spot. In 2002 Proscriptor broke his wrist in an accident. It took lots of rehabilitation for him to regain his drumming skills. After he recuperated,he flew to Europe to record the album Sphynx as the drummer for Melechesh.
