Gregory LeNoir Allman (December 8, 1947 – May 27, 2017) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. He was known for performing in the Allman Brothers Band. Allman grew up with an interest in rhythm and blues music, and the Allman Brothers Band fused it with rock music, jazz, and country at times. He wrote several of the band's biggest songs, including "Whipping Post", "Melissa", and "Midnight Rider". Allman also had a successful solo career, releasing seven studio albums.

Gregg Allman was at his creative peak in the early 70's, and the collective musicianship fill out a full sound that is not exactly Allman Brothers, but is excellent nonetheless. I saw this band perform at the Paramount Theater in Portland, Oregon on this tour, and bought the album immediately. I haven't had it for several years, so it's really nice to hear this music again. You'll probably find the slide guitar a little loose, but their versions of "Dreams" and "Stand Back" are very credible. Tunes from Gregg's "Laid Back" album round out. I was at the Gregg Allman show in Omaha, Nebr in 1974. It was a great concert. I was very glad to see this re-released on CD.
