The Sixth full studio album by The Dear Hunter, and the fourth album in the band’s concept album series. The album focuses primarily on how the main character’s life develops after the First World War (Act III). The key concepts of the album are love, loss, corruption & religion. The main character (The Boy/The Dear Hunter/Hunter) has returned from The Great War (Act III). He has assumed his identical half-brother’s identity and attempts to relive his pleasant past (Act I) with a new Mother figure. The new Mother figure passes away, Hunter spends time spreading her ashes

7 Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise. Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional. Between the release of Act II and Act III, Crescenzo was also conceiving a multi-album arc related to the colour spectrum. On April 23, 2010, Crescenzo announced that The Dear Hunter would take a break from the Acts project to focus on this concept. He also stated that Act IV would most likely not be seen for quite some time.
In the meantime, The Dear Hunter is premiering a brand new song off the new album. Introducing "Waves," a majestic, lushly produced slab of orchestral rock music: "With writing 'Waves', it was an example of the eerie periodic parallels with my life that occur when writing this fictional story," Crescenzo tells Billboard. At the surface, its somewhat of a grand middle finger to love, but at its heart, the song is truly about growing and learning from those experiences that seem so earth shattering in the moment
Act III was a little worrisome, even though it was an excellent album, songs were short and not as developed, but Act IV comes back in all the former glory. Act III had a lot of story line to cover, so a lot had to packed in there, yet even then they did a great job and that album should not be ignored. In Act IV, all of the emotion and intensity has not been compromised. Casey's voice is still amazing and the music and production is amazing as always. Prog is still in the mix too, songs are not predictable and always rich in change, originality and quality.
The other big effort " Act IV " tackles regarding the sonic aspect is a sizable increase in its repertoire of musical styles. Considering The Dear Hunter 's previous two albums, this makes sense, but the numerous deviations from their regular prog rock sound both sink and swim.
Act IV is epic in scope and absolutely gorgeous, their most accomplished thus far in the series. More than ever, the story and the songs are completely entwined.
