The Kick Inside is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician Kate Bush. It was released on 17 February 1978 and contains her UK number one hit, "Wuthering Heights". The album peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart and has been certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry

That Kate Bush named her debut album The Kick Inside might make it seem like her music is the product of a maternal wellspring. Women artists likening their work to their children is one culturally accepted way for them to discuss creativity; it implies a reassuring process of nurture. Another is as a bolt from the blue, a divine phenomenon which they just happened to catch and transmit to a deserving audience; no need for fear of a female genius here. But Bush’s debut, released when she was 19, says Up yours to all that

Kate Bush's first album, The Kick Inside, released when the singer/songwriter was only 19 years old (but featuring some songs written at 15 and recorded at 16), is her most unabashedly romantic, the sound of an impressionable and highly precocious teenager spreading her wings for the first time.

There is a wealth of interesting information in there from Kate herself. Sara from Madison, WiActually, my mother is a huge Kate Bush fan and she says that that whole brother/sister thing is just what everybody thinks the song's about, but it really isn't.

The Kick Inside focus on Kate's early career and core essence as a pianist singer songwriter. Raf Mantelli - Vocals, Piano O Richard Smith - Double Bass. Alluring, atmospheric duo Raf and O launch their THE KICK INSIDE project - a beautifully realised, heartfelt re-imagining of a Kate Bush who kept on playing live. Adrian Specs. Utterly fantastic!" Dexter Bentley, London Resonance FM. "Raf Mantelli from our favourite avant-garde duo Raf and O adds her idiosyncratic, enchanting signature to the music of Kate Bush on her latest project, The Kick Inside. There's a very real sense that Raf made these songs her own and created a Kate Bush persona in which to perform them. It was released on 17 February 1978 and contains her UK number one hit, Wuthering Heights. The album peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart and has been certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. The production included efforts by several progressive rock veterans, including Duncan Mackay, Ian Bairnson, David Paton, Andrew Powell, and Stuart Elliott of The Alan Parsons Project, and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Notes

Yugoslav release (with front cover different from the original one) with slightly different labels from the other Yugoslav releases: album title, track list, artist name and the other release data are positioned on the right side of the right, yellow part of the label, left ordered about 1 cm from the centre, almost in a continuous column; bold "STEREO / (ST)" on the left, red EMI label part stays all in the "M" of "EMI", near to the centre, a little bit above it. Catalog number with hyphen LSEMI-70870 on the back cover and on the spine but without hyphen on the labels: LSEMI 70870.
Although "Front cover design: Splash Studio" and "Photography: Jay Myrdal" stay on the back cover, those credits do not concern to Yugoslav releases and they are not noted above because an artist's portrait photography has been used for the front cover design instead of the original one with kite. (Information about this design and the photographer is nowhere on the cover to find.)
Recorded at Air London Studios: July/August 1977.
A2 & A5 recorded at Air London Studios: June 1975.

Saintrius
Anyone else getting sibilance, particularly on L’Amour Looks Something Like You?
Just_paw
I got this on the sensual world too. I suspect the remastering to be over the board. Not pleasant at all and a bit disapointing.
Nalme
Apparently the spine on the 2018 vinyl reissue has a spelling mistake “The Kick Insde” rather than “The Kick Inside” doh!
zmejka
Yes, I see this error on the spine of my copy!
