David Bowie was halfway through writing a concept album about George Orwell's classic novel 1984 when he ran into a tiny snag: Orwell's estate denied him the rights to the book. Rather than start from scratch, Bowie opted to put some of the songs on a more traditional glam rock album. Diamond Dogs is a farewell to the already fading glam scene. On the cover, Bowie still has his Ziggy hair, but he's already morphing into some other creature.
The Prettiest Star" is a song by David Bowie, originally released as a single in March 1970. In January 1970, Bowie re-recorded an old Deram track, "London Bye Ta-Ta", intended as a follow-up single to "Space Oddity".
You like David Bowie? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Hunky Dory came out in '71, I think he really came into the mainstream, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Freddie Mercury and Alice Cooper, but I think Bowie had a far more flamboyant, androgynous sense of style. I LOVE Ziggy Stardust! Was in England when it was released & it was instant love when I heard Starman on the radio; have loved Bowie ever since. Greatest album of all time! There's a starman waiting in the sky! - SomewhereInLondon. Best Bowie album ever! This is much better than Black Star which is very depressing. 10 Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps).

David Bowie & Tony Visconti are the producers of the album, and it features percussion (performed by James Murphy). Visconti stated that he and Bowie listened to a lot of Kendrick Lamar, specifically his second LP, To Pimp a Butterfly while working on the album. He told Rolling Stone: We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact that Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn’t do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that’s exactly what we wanted to do. The goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock & roll.
Tony went to fight in Belfast Rudi stayed at home to starve I could make it all worthwhile as a rock & roll star Bevan tried to change the nation Sonny wants to turn the world, well he can tell you that he tried I could make a transformation as a rock & roll star. So inviting - so enticing to play the part I could play the wild mutation as a rock & roll star I could do with the money I'm so wiped out with things as they are I'd send my photograph to my honey - and I'd c'mon like a regular superstar
Producer Tony Visconti has said that David Bowie's 25th album, Blackstar, is a reaction to 2013's The Next Day, which the longtime collaborators felt was a bit too rooted in the artist's classic rock 'n' roll style.
