The Poppy Family was a Canadian pop music group, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. They had a number of international hit records in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Seventeen-year-old Susan Pesklevits met Terry Jacks in the mid-1960s when he appeared as a guest on the national teen TV show Music Hop where she was a regular performer. She later called Jacks to accompany her on rhythm guitar for one of her live appearances

The Poppy Family were the Canadian duo of Terry and Susan Jacks, who were husband and wife at the time. Terry Jacks, who four years later would release the ubiquitous "Seasons in the Sun," wrote the song whilst Susan sang lead. Terry was a big Buddy Holly fan, and started writing the song in his pre-Poppy days with the working title "Which Way You Goin' Buddy?" He had the melody, but couldn't come up with a lyrical theme. The first week it was at the record was "Everything is Beautiful" by Ray Stevens and for its second week it was "The Long and Winding Road" by the Beatles. Susan Jacks from, but very inaccurate.

Which Way You Goin' Billy?, released in 1969, was the first album from Vancouver, British Columbia band The Poppy Family. They scored their biggest hit with title track, "Which Way You Goin' Billy?", which went to in both Canada and Ireland and on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the Cash Box Top 100 in the US. The album has yet to be released on modern formats and remains a rare vinyl collectible.
