Brian Wilson is the debut studio album by Brian Wilson released in July 1988 on Sire Records. It was voted one of the best albums of 1988 by NME, and as part of its acclaim, garnered the nickname "Pet Sounds '88" among some critics. The album has since been reissued on several formats with bonus tracks, and cited by some as a standout in Wilson's solo oeuvre.
Over the course of 18 tracks, Playback samples from nearly every record Wilson released between his eponymous 1988 solo debut and 2015's No Pier Pressure, adding two unreleased tracks - the brand-new surf tune "Run James Run" and the nice, effervescent Andy Paley '90s collaboration "Some Sweet Day" - for good measure.
When Brian Wilson first heard the Beatles’ 1965 album Rubber Soul, he was so astonished by the album that the next morning, he went straight to his piano and started writing God Only Knows with hi. Mapped out by manager Brian Epstein, the group would shoot a film, write and record a soundtrack for that film, tour, and then record another album. But when the Beatles couldn’t agree with Epstein on a movie script, the film project was scrapped. This gave the group some unexpected free time.

Brian Wilson Discography. Brian's latest album is an anthology of solo recordings, starting with his ‘comeback’ album on Sire, through to the current day & a new track ‘Run James Run’ which is unreleased & recorded specifically for this album. The record also features another unreleased track – ‘Some Sweet Day’ – from the sessions with Andy Paley.
As Brian Wilson later recalled, the Beatles' sixth album was the first release he'd ever heard where every song "went together like no album ever made before". It proved a huge influence on the set of songs that then became the Beach Boys' next album, Pet Sounds, released in May 1966. Paul McCartney later called Pet Sounds his favourite album of all time; it also marked the end of an era – because no set of songs thereafter could ever summon such a sense of innocence. Pet Sounds spurred the Fabs to ever greater heights on Revolver.
Collection of Brian’s fairly recent back pages. As a live draw, Wilson is probably more in demand than ever and the versions of The First Time and This Isn’t Love from the Roxy Theatre capture him in his somewhat hesitant pomp, even if the old muse seems to be slightly ahead of his own delivery. The odd choice of Colors Of The Wind from the In The Key Of Disney project doesn’t make much sense – the rare Night Blooming Jasmine would have been a better boost.
