Blackadder's Christmas Carol is a one-off episode of Blackadder, a parody of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It is set between Blackadder the Third (1987) and Blackadder Goes Forth (1989), and is narrated by Hugh Laurie. Produced by the BBC, it was first broadcast on BBC1 on 23 December 1988. Ebenezer Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson), the Victorian proprietor of a "moustache shop", is the nicest man in England
Comic reversal of the classic Dickens tale, starring Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Robbie Coltrane and Miranda Richardson. Ebenezer Blackadder Rowan Atkinson. Baldrick Tony Robinson. Spirit of Christmas Robbie Coltrane. Queen Elizabeth I Miranda Richardson. Lord Melchett/Frondo Stephen Fry. Prince Regent Hugh Laurie. Queen Victoria Miriam Margolyes. Prince Albert Jim Broadbent. Nursie/King Bernard Patsy Byrne. Mrs Scratchitt Pauline Melville.
Hugh Laurie returns as the Prince Regent from Blackadder the Third and the entire court from Blackadder II (1986) is reassembled for japes involving a merry seasonal death warrant. Miranda Richardson is outrageously capricious as Elizabeth I, then takes the character a stage further in a decadent space opera future which also sees Patsy (Nursie) Byrne as an android. Though not quite as laugh-out-loud funny as the regular Blackadder series this is an excellent Yuletide special. Tony Robinson, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Robbie Coltrane, Miriam Margolies and Jim Broadbent. Quite a cast! It doesn't all work, and the very ending is a bit predictable, but there lots of laughs and twisted humor along the way.

Thirty years ago, Blackadder's Christmas Carol brought us a brilliantly subversive take on the Charles Dickens classic. And it remains inspired. It takes in both the Elizabethan antics of Blackadder II and the Regency pratfalls of Blackadder the Third – allowing the cast to reprise their famous roles from those classic series, with all their assorted delights, for what is essentially two new entertaining mini-episodes within the wider story. But it also, in a brilliant break from historic tradition, hops forward into the distant, intergalactic future in a hilarious segment which operates like a sci-fi version of Queen Elizabeth’s court. In this far-flung sequence, a robot-like Nursie, typically sneering Melchett and toga-wearing Laurie (sporting what looks like a doughnut on his head) serve as the Queen’s triple-husbandoid, while Blackadder and Baldrick are her pair of marauding space pirates.

Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Tim McInnerny and Miranda Richardson would have reprised their roles, and reportedly, Brian Blessed, Elspet Gray and Robert East would have returned from the first series to play Blackadder's biological family. Robinson in a stage performance 1 June 2007, again mentioned this idea, but in the context of a movie. However, Miranda Richardson and Tony Robinson expressed enthusiasm towards the idea of a series set in the Wild West, whilst John Lloyd favoured an idea for a series with a Neanderthal Blackadder.
